The mother will nurse the young, will the father scouts for food. In some species such as wolves, the pack of young will fight to the death to see who will be fit enough to be raised. Animals continue to breast feed until they develop strong enough teeth to chew common foods in their surrounding environment. Parents will give their life to see that their young live through a fatal encounter. Most animals build their homes with surrounding resources while others use self-made elements to build their home. Animals known to build their houses independantly usually are independent in their lifestyle also. Some species use a "play it by ear" technique called by Tim Halliday (Animal Behavior p. 113). This technique is when an animal will hide under tree leaves when it rains, hide in a log when it get cold, always just using whatever is a Animals prefer sounds when they communicate with each other. Some prefer to use colors, and some use gestures. Fish in the Mariana Trench use electric impulses to communicate. Some fish also don't really communicate, they just follow each other around. Animals fight a lot during the course of their lives. The main cause of fighting is to show off for females when courting, or to protect their territory. Some species fight packs versus packs for territory rights.

Animals have an instinct for survival from the moment they are born. They're also born prepared for the hardships they may face concerning their environment. Such as polar bears have thick fur, wolves have strong teeth, and seals have lots of fat. Also, some animals have shells to protect them in the wild, others have scales.
